How can a psychotherapist be more attuned and intentional with language? Language is the primary psychotherapeutic tool for connection, understanding and eliciting the possibility of change. In this workshop for mental health professionals, we will explore a variety of approaches to therapeutic metaphor—a transtheoretical tool for discovering ways to change. We will explore a three-dimensional model of therapeutic metaphor use and develop specific metaphors tailored to specific client concerns, using discussion, case examples, and a minimum of lecture.
